Foreman/superintendent – M/F
Job description
The foreman/superintendent oversees the day-to-day smooth running of worksite operations. He/she prepares the worksite, oversees technical aspects of the work, coordinates the various trades working on site, and ensures resource availability, making adjustments as needed to make sure the work is completed on time.
Main duties
Worksite preparation
- Analyses worksite characteristics (drawings, work rates, delivery lead times, budget)
- Determines staffing requirements
- Ensures that the worksite is properly set up and laid out based on the working drawings (ground markings, outline of the structure, identification of pipes and cables, site markings)
Monitoring of the works
- Coordinates the work of teams, subcontractors and other trades
- Coordinates worksite plant and machinery operations
- Ensures that health, safety and environment rules are complied with (helmets are worn, waste and noise pollution are properly managed, etc.)
- Manages unexpected incidents on the worksite, as well as “risks and opportunities”
- Takes remedial measures to address slippages relative to the agreed objectives (budget overshoot, quality issues, etc.)
- Contributes to worksite budget monitoring (analysing income and expenditure)
- Reports schedule changes or human/material resource requirements
- Receives orders and deliveries and contributes to inventory management
- Ensures that plant and equipment is treated with respect
- Supervises the site clean-up and restoration process once the works are complete
Representation
- Represents the company in day-to-day dealings with all worksite stakeholders
- May be required to support or stand in for a line manager at worksite meetings
Team leadership
- Sets daily output targets (quality, lead times)
- Manages administrative aspects (clocking in and out, etc.), sets daily work schedules and assigns staff to teams
- Plans future recruitment requirements in conjunction with the works supervisor
- Onboards new hires (introduction to the team, safety training, etc.)
