Archivist – M/F

Job description

The archivist creates and manages a documentary repository and makes these resources available to editorial and/or production teams. He/she handles a range of information and documentation requests, drawing on knowledge of information sources and documentary research skills.

Main duties

Image collection

  • Finds images for news bulletins and programmes, searching within the existing documentary repository as well as in external databases and on-line
  • Negotiates broadcasting rights as required
  • Completes declarations to those holding authors’ rights
  • May be required to carry out on-line and social media monitoring

Image processing

  • Identifies images uploaded to production servers
  • Stores and organises images in the appropriate tree structure
  • Indicates image sources and associated rights
  • Selects and compiles image packs from rushes to supplement illustrations, and makes these available to editorial and/or production teams
  • Indexes items from news bulletins and programmes

Competitive intelligence/technology watch

  • Identifies new information sources
  • Keeps abreast of developments in research and information dissemination tools and methods

Digital journalist – M/F

Job description

The digital journalist produces information on digital media and external platforms, in accordance with the entity’s tone and editorial line.

Main duties

Research and information-gathering

  • Searches for and fact-checks information before processing, in accordance with the editorial line.
  • Reviews relevant media on a daily basis, liaises with sources, builds and maintains a network of contacts and monitors the progress of ongoing tasks
  • Receives information from social media, from news agency and media outlet wire reports, from the institutional event agenda, from press releases, press packs and press conferences, and from sources, colleagues and contacts made as part of investigations and in other settings
  • Keeps detailed records, reviews the facts in minute detail, uncovers news stories and draws on extensive knowledge to produce insightful reporting and analysis

Fact-checking

  • Checks information by cross-referencing sources until it is certain that the facts are accurate, drawing on subject-matter experts or specialists and reviewing all possibilities that the information could have been manipulated
  • Uses a wide range of sources to cross-reference information

Report-writing and production

  • Produces reports on all topics
  • Suggests and produces, on a daily basis, factual reports and opinion pieces suitable for on-line consumption, including in mobile format
  • Factors in the specific features of different web-ready formats (videos, articles, photographs, infographics, etc.)
  • Reviews content based on the latest available information and demonstrates a responsive attitude
