Job description
The logistics officer manages and coordinates physical flows (of materials, products and equipment), meeting cost, quality and lead time imperatives in accordance with the company’s strategy.
Main duties
Logistics planning
- Supervises inventory management (status, requirements relative to work-in-progress)
- Works with suppliers to monitor the sourcing, receipt and storage of supplies and equipment
- Coordinates the movement of worksite supplies
Purchasing
- Arranges purchases from local and international suppliers
- Monitors orders for compliance
- Develops sourcing strategies
- Negotiates with suppliers to achieve favourable pricing arrangements and purchase contract terms
Participation in budget monitoring
- Helps prepare annual budgets in terms of flows
- Tracks margin trends relative to the annual budget
Regulation
- Ensures compliance with regulatory and legal standards governing transportation
- Applies specific procedures (dangerous goods declaration (DGD), etc.)
- Manages customs duties
Competitive intelligence/technology watch
- Keeps abreast of the latest developments in domestic and international regulations
